Agenda 2063, anchored on the African Union vision, is a shared strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa.

It encapsulates not only Africa’s Aspirations for the Future but also identifies core Flagship Programmes aimed at boosting Africa’s economic growth and development and lead to the rapid transformation of the continent in the next 50 years. Following 18 months of extensive consultations with all formations of African society, Agenda 2063 was adopted, in January of 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (UA).

Contained in the Agenda 2063 are the Seven Aspirations, objectives and goals of the Agenda 2063 and which are crucial to the success of the agenda.

The Seven Aspirations of the Agenda 2063 includes the following:
  • A prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development.
  • An integrated continent politically united and based on the ideals of Pan-Africanism and the vision of African Renaissance.
  • An Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law.
  • A peaceful and secure Africa.
  • Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, values and ethics.
  • An Africa whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential offered by the African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children.
  • Africa as a strong, united, resilient and influential global player and partner.

The Agenda 2063 was adopted as a collective African vision and roadmap for the next fifty years, in January of 2015, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by Heads of State and Government of the African Union, assembled for the 24th session of the Assembly of the Union.

Agenda 2063 is built on the pledges made through the 50th Anniversary Solemn Declaration. Pledges to immediately align and integrate Agenda 2063 in Africa’s national and regional plans and ensure that necessary capacities and resources are provided to AU Commission and other regional and continental institutions to effectively drive implementation of the Agenda.

Agenda 2063 is an endogenous plan harnessing Africa’s comparative advantages, natural resources, position and reposition in the world to effect equitable and people-centered social, economic, and technological transformation and the eradication of poverty in the continent.

Agenda 2063 is an action plan to eradicate poverty in the coming decades; provide opportunities for all Africans to have decent and affordable housing; catalyze education and skills evolution; transform, grow and industralise economies; consolidate the modernization of African agriculture and agro-businesses; improve climate change and the environment; and achieve gender parity.

Also, African stolen culture, heritage, and artefacts is set to be fully repatriated and safeguarded.

The Agenda 2063 seeks to look inwards to mobilise African resources to finance and accelerate its transformation, integration, peace, security, infrastructure, industrialization, democratic governance, and strengthen continental institutions.
