Topic: Podways: a low-cost, privately-financed, electric transport infrastructure for Africa
Many African economies face paralyzing congestion, widespread pollution, and increasing injuries and deaths on roadways. We need to re-imagine transportation infrastructure to address these issues and create cities that are clean, quiet, safe, and walkable.
In this Brickstone InfraWebinar Session, our Guest Speaker will share his insights on how a new low-cost infrastructure can provide a viable alternative to roadways, highways, and railways. Africa rapidly transitioned to wireless communication infrastructure, leapfrogging over land-lines. This session will present the economics and technology that could lead to a similar leapfrogging over electric and autonomous vehicles.
Podway projects can attract private and foreign investments to deploy a new transportation infrastructure without needing government funding or subsidies. Podways can co-exist alongside existing roadways, yet has the cost, capacity, and convenience to supplant roadways and railways. A pilot system was installed last year near Boston, USA and Transit X has received commitments from several countries in Africa
